.BANK Versus .COM Domain
We often get asked why FNC Bank has a .BANK website and email instead of the commonly used .COM. Here's an overview of what it means to be a .BANK financial institution.
What is .BANK?
.BANK is a restricted domain, similar to .gov or .edu, but specifically for verified banks. Unlike .COM, which can be obtained by anyone, .BANK quickly verifies that the website or email is genuinely from our bank. Therefore, when you see the .BANK at the end of our email address and website URL, you can confidently interact with us.
How is .BANK more secure?
All banks are verified and authenticated by fTLD, the .BANK administrator, before registering their .BANK domain, and they are re-verified annually. This ensures that every organization using a .BANK domain is eligible. Unlike in ‘.COM’ and other publicly available domains, hackers and bad actors cannot obtain a .BANK domain to create fake domains for phishing and spoofing.
With the .BANK visual authentication cue in place, you can quickly confirm that our emails and websites are legitimate, avoiding interactions that could lead to identity theft and financial fraud. This authentication also provides an additional layer of protection for our internal and vendor communications, strengthening our defense against potential breaches.
Every bank within the .BANK domain is required to implement additional security measures to safeguard their sites and email, protecting themselves, their vendors, and their customers from phishing, spoofing, and other cyberattacks. Ongoing monitoring ensures that all banks using .BANK comply with these security requirements.
